Walnuts are one of my absolute favorite nuts and I love that I can use them in so many different ways. I was so excited to learn all of the different health benefits and Nutritional Value of Walnuts because they’re already something I include in my everyday diet. Walnuts also have monounsaturated and omega-3 fatty acids. These are good fats that your body needs.
They also contain anti-inflammatory properties which help protect against cardiac arrest and provide other heart benefits. One benefit that my husband gets from walnuts is they lower LDL. This means that it lowers the amount of bad cholesterol in your body. Studies have shown that walnuts also offer many anti-cancer benefits due to the large number and wide variety of anti-inflammatory nutrients found in walnuts.
Walnuts are packed with protein, fiber, antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals. They also contain a lot of “good” fats that are hard to find in foods and incorporate into our diets. The two major ones are monounsaturated and omega-3 fatty acids. The plant based omega-3 fat alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) has anti-inflammatory effects on the body and a University of Maryland study(1) found that those who eat diets high in ALA have about a 50% lower risk of sudden cardiac death. There are other heart healthy benefits as well and eating a few everyday can help to lower both LDL and overall cholesterol levels. Studies have also shown that they can reduce the risk of excessive blood clotting and inflammation, both of which can be major factors in cases of stroke and heart attacks. In addition, the antioxidants they contain can help our brains as they age by enhancing overall cognitive and motor functions.
Aside from the Nutritional Value of Walnuts, it has also been proven that they can increase sperm quality in men, thus increasing reproductive health.
